East Bay Patients’ List Found by Law Enforcement
The East Bay hospitals of Stutter Health were recently notified by the Department of Alameda County Sheriff that information of nearly 4,500 patients have been found. The concern is that the data found was not related to the investigation and hence, it is a major concern and this data leak could have been caused by cybercrimes.
Sutter Health mentioned in a blog post of its news room that it had no idea of what kind of investigation was in progress under the supervision of Department of Alameda County Sheriff during which they found the list. Sutter Health thinks that the data might have originated from its Eden medical center, Sutter Delta medical center and Alta Bates Summit medical center.
The list that was handed over the Sutter Health by the law enforcement contained some crucial information about the patients. The compromised list contained information like date of birth, Social Security Number, zip code, address, gender, marital status, work phone number and employer’s name and home phone number.
Sutter Health informed that the exact origin of the list was not confirmed but it had taken the pain to inform all the patients whose data were compromised and that credit monitoring services are being offered to the victims for free. Sutter Health also informed all the appropriate government agencies about the data breach.
In the blog post released 14th of June, 2013, Sutter Health mentioned that it takes the privacy of its patients very seriously and that it will do everything possible to protect their privacy and that they will continue to work with all law enforcement bodies to investigate and to reach to the roots of the incident.
Sutter Health has also provided a help line number so that affected patients or those who believe to have been affected by the breach can call for information or assistance. The number provided is 1-888-414-8020 and for security verification, the callers will be prompted to enter a 10-digit code when the call. The numeric code that they need to enter during the call is 2789053113.
