The Future of 5G
Most recently, 4G and 4G LTE networks has had a focus on broadband multimedia putting the Internet in the hands of smartphones. Before that, basic data packages consisted of text messaging and partial Internet over 3G. 5G will take broadband mobile, low latency, and massive data into a new age. The goals sought by 5G include 3D video, Ultra High Definition video, gigabytes/second, self-driving cards, and other innovations. Qualcomm has been testing 1.4gigabits per second compared to the current 4G's 71megabits per second. The leading telecommunications equipment vendors involved in dozen of trials and partnerships with 5G rollout include Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, ZTE, and Samsung. China's Huawe and ZTE is competing with South Korea's Samsung while Sweden's Ericsson appears to be leading in the number of trials and production of mobile equipment. Interestingly enough, the USA does not have a major domestic manufacturer of 5G radio access network hardware. However, the USA deems it necessary from a national security standpoint to shun China's Huawei and ZTE including and potentially invoking emergency powers to nationalize its 5G networks.
