Superdrug retailer's online accounts compromised
British health and beauty retailer Superdrug has urged its online customers to change their passwords after an August 20th threat to the company by hackers claiming to have online shopper information. According to the retailer's Twitter @superdrug on August 23, it claims to have only seen 386 compromised customers out of the 20,000 which the hacker indicated were obtained. The compromise consists of email addresses and passwords but payment card information is not included. The company believes the hacker making the threat actually obtained the customers' email addresses and passwords from another website which matched the credentials needed to gain access into Superdrug online shopping.
The UK's national fraud and cyber-crime arm Police and Action Fraud has since been contacted according to Superdrug CEO Peter Macnab.
