Los Angeles FD ambulance bill frauds affect at least 26

Advanced Data Processing, Inc., parent company of Florida-based Intermedix, said their employee who illegally accessed the Los Angeles Fire Department city ambulances’ patient information was involved with a “very large” identity theft ring in Florida. (Berkeley, El Centro and Corona were also affected.) The exploited data in the incident included names, dates of birth and SSNs. Some data was used in fraudulent tax returns as part of a larger scheme. The city sent letters to 26 patients notifying them of the breach, with department officials advising patients who think they may have been victimized to call (877) 264-9622 which is a number provided by Intermedix. Intermedix has yet to determine if 900 others of city ambulances were also victimized in Los Angeles.]]>
