Montfort Hospital loses thumbdrive of 25,000 patient treatment records

Last Friday, an employee of Ottawa’s Montfort Hospital lost a USB key somewhere between the hospital and her home.  The USB key contained patient names, summaries of services provided and those dates, and a code which refers to the patients’ doctor (provider.)  A letter of apology and reassurance has been dispatched by Montfort’s chief privacy officer El Mostafa Bouattane which eases “despite our standard precautions” and goes on to exclaim the lost data is only invoice related.
