Prison for Florida Hospital's PHI based ID theft conspirator

12,000 vehicle accident patients lost personally identifiable information after it was stolen and sold from Florida Hospital’s database of approximately 760,000 health records.  The accused thief, Dale Munroe II, was sentenced to federal prison on January 18th to 12 months and 1 day (of a potential 15 years) after pleading back on October 22, 2012 to conspiracy and wrongful disclosure of PHI.

It is alleged that Munroe accessed the records from multiple Florida Hospital locations from 2009 until his termination on July 2011.  The buyer, Sergei Kusyakov, of the data used the data to solicit legal and chiropractic business.  Kusyakov pled guilty on January 7th and faces 45 years in federal prison.  His sentencing hearing is March 25th.

Additionally, after Munroe’s termination, his wife Katrina Munroe was recruited by the conspirators as a former insurance worker and she now faces up to 5 years in federal prison after being fired in August 2012 after being suspected in the breach.  In December 2012, Katrina Munroe pled guilty and will face her sentencing on March 11th.
